The i5 + geforce 320M would be the best! But they don’t put those nvidia graphics in macbooks anymore :(

@climbingarizona The Thunderbolt port is basically the same as an MDP apart from the fact that you can use other things with it as well.. From what I have read the Thunderbolt port doesn’t work well with some monitors though unless you are using an adapter (say MDP – DVI).

And the graphics performance is debatable, personally I would rather sacrifice a bit of graphics power for extra battery life on a laptop that is built for ultra-portability.. :)

    Great test mate! Thanks

  9. itechkid on January 7, 2012 at 7:39 pm

@climbingarizona “The Thunderbolt as of now has only one display that will work which is $1000.”

Not true at all. From Apple’s website: “And because Thunderbolt is based on DisplayPort technology, the video standard for high-resolution displays, any Mini DisplayPort display plugs right into the Thunderbolt port. To connect a DisplayPort, DVI, HDMI, or VGA display, just use an existing adapter.”

I have the 2010 Macbook Air 11 inch with 4GB RAM and 128GB SSD – Two things it has going for it over the 2011 MBA is it has a better GPU (Geforce 320M) and it doesn’t have the Thunderbolt port, so I can attach just about any monitor made on the planet to it. The Thunderbolt as of now has only one display that will work which is $1000.

The i5 Sandy Bridge processor has had problems since day one – chances are the 2010 MBA will outlast the 2011 model easily!

left side, there is a nice 16:10-native-13″-display.
no comparison to lenovo X1 oder x220-shitty-16:09-display.
I hope: apple will bring out a macbook air 15″ with 16:10-format-display or a
macbook pro 15-light-weight-model without DVD-unit, less 700 Gramm
    ( 1500 Gramm – 15″-mb )

Hey man, hows the realistic performance with PS and Illustrator CS5? I do have a iMac and pro for regular and heavy stuffs at Office, but might need to do some regular work on this occasionally.

There’s a rumour that some of the new 13″ models have the old Toshiba SSD’s still installed, could you go to ‘about this mac’ – system report – serial ATA – and see whether it says in bold: apple TS128C or apple SM128C, the SM is the new faster samsung ssd, thanks in advance!

  21. gmaster45612374 on January 8, 2012 at 1:49 am

The CPUs in the 2010 MBA are slow, especially when running lion.

  27. iTechEverything on January 8, 2012 at 6:21 am

@ClickBull The Airs have defiantly raised the bar for ultra-portables.

  28. iTechEverything on January 8, 2012 at 6:25 am

@MrHameso Really? lol, thanks for watching!

  29. iTechEverything on January 8, 2012 at 6:48 am

@CometLol Also with Ivy Bridge there could be some major battery life improvements, because Ivy Bridge is meant to be really power efficient.

  30. CometLol on January 8, 2012 at 7:40 am

If the 2012 Airs comes out with Ivy Bridge, I think the Airs can be just as good as the Pros
I just hope Apple increases the display resolutions on next years models, I wouldn’t care much for redesigns

  31. ttrosh on January 8, 2012 at 8:37 am
