On the fence? Can’t decide? it’s not a hard choice to make. The #1 reason to choose the Air is to have a slim machine. If that’s really all you care about and 2 pounds is too much for you, the Air is perfect. The reality is, the Pro is upgradeable. It can have ANY hard drive you want in it. You can have up to 16GB of RAM if you want. The screen is superior. The build quality is superior. The processor is faster. The case has better ventilation for the heat generated. I’m not saying for a moment that the AIr doesn’t have a place. It does. It’s a great companion machine, great for being on an airplane. It’s not going to be a viable primary laptop unless all you do is browse the web and hit up Facebook. The reality though is that the Pro has more long term value than the Air.

Macbook Air’s display is much better. MUCH less glare and better resolution. Pro’s resolution is 1280×720 while the Air’s display is 1444×900 (more pixels)
@mistermarcusgmail Love your breakdown of these two machines, you hit the pros and cons spot on. I’m about to buy the 13″ Pro kind of weary of making that purchase though. I’ve heard the new Ivy Bridge Processors will show up early April. I produce music and I will mainly be using my Pro with Logic Express 9, I hate lion by the way Snow Leopard was when I got my first macbook pro. I’m currently on a buggy imac running lion!
Great Very Detail Review Of Both Pro & Air
Best 13″ Pro vs 13″Air video on youtube
and dude they got exposé on lion too. with the little minimized page on the bottom showing too.
thats it. i am not going to get the macbook air. its got grey icons. that is disgusting.
macbook air
great job i just sold my 2009 mbp 15.4 to get a mpp 13 inch or a mba 13 inch i will be getting the mbp13 inch.
thanks
@RubberyDreams Semantics. You can’t build a laptop, so that renders your argument moot.
Additionally, when you find an ultrabook with the SAME or BETTER battery life for less than an Air, I’ll listen. You won’t find it though.
Now stop.
@mistermarcusgmail I said Apple is expensive, not too expensive. You’ve apparently mistaken me for being a Windows fanboy. Well, I’m not, so you don’t have to prove anything to me. Apple computers are still shit expensive compared to what you can build yourself.
@RubberyDreams You realize that the MacBook Pro and MacBook Air are no more expensive than the PC counterparts of equivalent design, yes? That’s why the ultra books cannot even match the price that Apple has for these machines.
The days of saying “Apple is too expensive” at least on the lower end laptops is long gone and childish.
@mistermarcusgmail When you buy a shit expensive computer, you’d want it to suit your preferences perfectly, no?
I am glad, I got the macbook pro.
@TheGonzo711 as is evident in the video, yes.
@TheGonzo711 reflections
Is it true that the screen on the macbook pro has alot of relections compared to the air?
No it’s because of lion
I will purchase a Macbook 13″ 2011 (Pro and Air)… I am going to buy whichever is cheaper…..
@mistermarcusgmail ok ok don’t beat me…. haha the problem is that I’m not speak (listen) very well english ‘cuase I’m from southamerica… nevertheless than you
@marc0scp I’m going to assume you ignored the boot time comparison in the front. I’m also going to assume that you totally ignored the part when I said clearly that the Pro will smoke the Air if you put a SSD in the Pro, that the Air will be faster than the Pro if you don’t, and that they have functionally the same processor. That should be clear enough I think.
@marc0scp The OS is part of the computer. You got the physical comparisons. You also got the user experience (OS) comparisons. Doing one or the other is half-assing things. You must consider both.
It’s less of a factor now that every new Apple is coming with Lion, but at the time of this review, that wasn’t the case, and it was a lot more critical to understand differences with the Snow Leopard experience vs. the forced Lion experience.
but you re not talking about the prefromance… you’re talking about the OS.. i wanted to see a macbook air and pro comparaison
Hi, Damn nice review. this is the review i am looking for and u got me. I like ur non apple fan review so much. in fact i have not used any apple laptop before so actually i dont really know what are the differences between Lion and Leopard. Anyway really thx for your review and now i know which to buy between Air or Pro. Cheers
